BEYOND TABLETOP: THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

The Slaanesh Keeper of Secrets is one of those models that truly deserves to be the star of the show. For this commission, I wanted to create something that feels special on the gaming table, moving beyond the standard tabletop look.

My goal was to find that perfect balance: a centerpiece with high-contrast details and smooth transitions that remains durable and readable for your matches. This project represents our commitment to providing a top-tier Warhammer commission painting service, bringing that "extra" touch to the battlefield whether you play Age of Sigmar or 40k.

The Initial Sketch: Testing the Concept

This is the very first stage, a raw 'sketch' phase where I’m focused on building the atmosphere rather than the final details. My concept for this Keeper of Secrets commission was to create an intensely hot environment, simulating glowing, searing stones beneath her feet.

In this early shot, I’ve applied some rough orange tones to the upper parts of the cloak to see how the lighting interacts with the model and to test the light source. For the skin, I intentionally chose a khaki base. This has a subtle green undertone, which provides a fantastic and necessary contrast to the dominant red and orange palette that will communicate the final, searing heat of the piece. It's all about experimenting right from the start!

Expanding the Base Palette: Testing the Colors

At this stage, it’s all about adding more base colors to see if the whole composition is starting to click. I’ve introduced red for the hair and a contrasting beige for the horns, which really helps to draw the eye back to the face as the main focal point.

I’ve also worked on the skin, moving towards a dirty white for the brightest highlights and adding a subtle touch of turquoise in the shadows to contrast the warmth of the reds. There's still a very strong orange component on the upper cloak; I haven’t decided yet if I’ll keep it this way or change it later. In the meantime, I’ve used black to block in the rest of the miniature. It’s a simple step, but it helps my eye to 'reorder' the model and understand if the overall balance is working.

Defining the Path: Everything Clicks into Place

This is the pivotal moment where the vision for this Keeper of Secrets truly solidified. After experimenting, I decided to make some major changes. The dominant orange on the upper cloak is now gone, replaced by a deep, dark blue-black. This immediately creates a massive contrast and shifts the focus.

I've moved the intense red to the absolute bottom of the cloak and base area. This perfectly simulates the harsh, glowing light reflected from the 'incandescent stones' beneath her, adding a dramatic sense of heat and atmosphere.

The skin tone has been significantly refined, boosting both the highlights for brightness and the contrasts for depth. Furthermore, I’ve begun the painstaking process of sketching in the Non-Metallic Metal (NMM) effects on the black armored sections. From this point forward, the path is clear, and the real refining work begins!

Mission Accomplished: Ready for the Battlefield

Here she is, the completed Keeper of Secrets. Reaching this final result was all about visual harmony. I toned down the blue on the cloak and softened the red of the hair to ensure every element felt unified and balanced across the entire model.

The setting was the real key to this project: understanding the environment first allowed me to choose the right colors for the figure itself. I used cork to sculpt the jagged rocks and stones for the base, applying fluorescent red pigments to create that intense, searing heat reflecting upwards. Every detail has been cared for to ensure this Keeper of Secrets is a truly dominant centerpiece. She is now ready to take the field and stand out in every match.
